Dumb question, but easy to answer
Are there any DV cams out there that can act as an analogue pass-through device? This means having no DV tape in it, just plugging a VCR into it, and throwing the Firewire on the other end, and capturing direct into the PC?
Or is the only way to capture to DV tape first, then throw that onto the PC, making it a one step process. And if so, is there a loss in quality.
I've seen many stand alone analogue-capture-in->firewire-out devices, all around 600$ though.
Thanks again!

Alot of Dv camera's do. I have a Sony DCR-TRV17 that does and I know when I purchased this and was looking at other models and brands that many of them had this feature.
