  1. i've got an avi file.
before i encode audio is in sync but after it goes out of sync by a couple of seconds.
    why does this happen?
how can i stop it happening?
i use the same file for video source and audio source and main concept to encode, 99% of the time there is no problems.

Try a different encoder, like Diko or divxtodvd(free trials).

  3. Are encoding to DVD? If so, your audio could be vbr. Open .avi in VirtualdubMod and save the .wav in streams list.
    Quality is my policy.

    1. It happens sometimes because of a variable bitrate of audio, or because a part of your file is corrupted.
    2. Open your file in Virtualdub. You would probably see an error message.
Now go to Audio and check Full Processing Mode, and then go to File and Save WAV. Use this WAV file as an audio source in your encoder to DVD.

  7. checked with virtualdub there was no errors.
when i tried to save wave it said, "no audio decompressor could be found to decrompess the source audio format. (source format tag :2000)"
i used goldwave to save wav. it is now in sync but audio is a lot quieter than it was before.

It seems that Virtualdub can not find the audio codec for your file.
You could use Avicodec or Gspot to open your file just to see the format of your audio and to identify the codec you might need.
Nevertheless, you solved the sync problem with wav from Goldwave which is very good tool for the job.
The audio is quiter - well, I wouldn't bother with that if you can increase the volume of audio in your player to the normal level.

Goldwave will allow you to save the audio at a higher volume.

  10. Your audio in avi is ac3. You can use it directly for DVD (no need to reencode). You can demultiplex it with VDubMod.
