  1. I am frequently having issues with audio not being in sync when I am backing up my DVDs to computer files.

It appears they are more out of sync toward the end of the movies but I cannot confirm that.

Is this more likely the result of the ripping software (DVD Decrypter or DVDfab) or the encoding software (Red Kawa, divx, or handbrake)?

Is there a way to fix these computer files after the fact?

It's easy to check, play the ripped files before converting them..If in sync, then yes, the culprit most likely is the converting/encoding SW used and in the conversion process...I don't use Handbrake much, but hear good things about it..I do use AviDemux, Virtualdub, both have audio shift tool for syncing your audio..That said, take one of your problem files and open in AviDemux and use the 'Shift' (ms) tool, adjust accordingly using + or - and preview till the audio lines up and save a new file...Make sure to use Copy for both Video and Audio and the correct output format (e.g. myfile.avi)..

  3. That is a great point - but what is the best application to play and examine a freshly ripped VOB file?

When I look at them in windows there is no application associated with a VOB file.
