Hi all,
I'm new enough to DVD authoring not to be too embarrassed by my first attempt at creating a multimedia DVD using Vegas and DVD Architect.
Considering I was limited to using 2nd generation VHS footage for the movie part of the DVD, imported to my PC via an ADVC-100, the result is not too bad and plays back flawlessly on the PC.
I then took the DVD to a friend's place, to check it out on their DVD player/TV system. Shock! Horror! It looks like sh*t.
Throughout the movie, when it showed people moving/walking on the set, the image of the person walking appeared to be broken into what I'd describe as a series of rapid still images, one after the other. When the subject was more or less stationary, this choppiness disappeared.
I haven't any idea what this might be, or what is causing it. I've been searching for info here and on the web and wonder if it's caused by interlacing/deinterlacing or something like that. I've since discovered it's probably best described as 'motion artifacts' (?).
The DVD is in PAL 25fps format. It was compressed for DVDA using 4 passes in CCE 2.67
Any pointers much appreciated. What should I be reading and where should I be looking?
Thanks ~ John

I am not expect by any means but to me it sounds like you have your field order mixed up. I had a similiar problem when I captured some VHS on my last project. Once I straighten that out, everythnig was fine. Good luck.

Thanks m8

Perhaps someone would kindly interpret for me.

The field order is determined largely by what type of device your using. In general DV devices like the Canopus or a DV cam are lower field or bottom field.
Whenever you have encoding options such as where you set the bitrate, audio type, etc you should find a option for top, bottom or frame based. Select bottom anytime you have this choice when using footage from the canopus.

Thanks coalman.
I let my fingers do the walking, to your much appreciated links plus some other stuff at DigitalFAQ.com etc.
I also found the ReStream utility.
Some info says to select top field, others say bottom field. I'll do a bit of reading and see what makes sense.

Top or bottom? Match your source, easy as that.
If it looks bad one way, it's obviously the other.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
