I was in Dick Smiths today and picked up a few commercial DVDs for $2.00 each. Dick Smiths is a National Electronics store in Australia. After examining the discs I found they were constructed on a plastic blank although the surface was identical to the traditional commercial DVD which is constructed in metal. The movies played OK and are better quality to VHS .... all are old movies that have been put onto DVD.
They are marketed by PAYLESS Entertainment Limited, I haven't seen these before. I ran DVD Indentifier and no manufacturer indentification was recorded.
They do not resemble normal DVD blank media.
Has anyone ever seen these discs before .... if so, can you provide more infomation about these discs.

Further to my earlier remarks, these DVDs are dubbed from VHS tapes, that's only a guess. Picture is VHS quality or worse containg noise and the audio is quite good, no noise and is consistant with AC3.

That's why they are $2. Also becareful of anything released by Force Video and Avenue One. Force have had a couple of good releases, including Halloween, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre two disk special edition, and the only local release of Dead and Buried (poor transfer, but almost uncut)
