  1. I have a ComproPVR which is an analogue video capture card, i have tried my DV Camcorder using SVIDEO and Compisite, but neither give me audio, everything is plugged in correctly, Would it have anything to do with my card being an analogue capture card?
    thanks

I'm not familiar with that card but you would do much better using IEEE-1394 to transfer your DV video.

I agree with edDV. Unless you have severe hdd space constraints the ieee-1394 dv transfer method will produce superior results to an analogue video capture card. If your system is really fast you can do an on the fly conversion from dv to mpeg or avi. Some apps will use temp files if your system is slower and still let you do it but the space required is almost as great as a straight transfer to dv and then a separate conversion.

btw) If you insist on doing it your way, your card should not be the issue for sound. The camera av output cable should have a red and white audio connector which need to be connected to your capture card's audio input. If it's not stereo then you need a joiner to combine the red and white to mono. The capture card audio out should then be jumped to your sound card's audio in. (It could be camera a/v audio to sound card in then jumped to the cap card in) it's too hard for me to see since mine are set up though a mutiple device input switch box connected at the rear of my case but I think you get the idea. Sometimes you have to re-establish the input source in your app by choosing for example svideo or composite whichever is your source again and then line-in or mixer for the audio. Do short tests first rather than capping a whole file.

Not stupid. You probably will have to buy a pci card unless you have a very recent system. Make sure you have a free pci slot before buying the card. Try to get one with the (firewire/ieee-1394/i-link) cable included. I paid $22 or $24 canadian with the cable. Some places wanted twice that and some didn't include the cable. Someone here posted that he paid $11 or $12 US for a card with the cable. That's a pretty good deal.

Just for information. If you are doing an analogue capture, the S-Video and Composite only carry the video, you need to connect the audio out from your camcorder to the line in on your soundcard to get sound as well.

With IEEE 1394 Firewire, the Firewire connection carries both, although not all transfer software allows you to hear the audio during the transfer.
