    Hi Folks,

I am still a newbie when it comes to capturing videos and authoring DVDs, so I hope someone can help with this.

I have a Sony HandyCam HC30 camcorder, I also have the firewire cable to transfer the video to my computer. Here is where the question comes in.

I have been using DVIO to capture the video to my computer and Using VDub to make small edits (cutting out un-needed frames etc). Then I use ConvertX to DVD 3 to burn the DVDs. I just caputed a 12min video and the size was 12GB

When editing in VDUB I use Direct stream copy to just cut some frames out (like someone filming the floor etc). After I make the cuts I import into ConvertX to burn.

Should I be compressing the video before loading it into ConvertX to minimize file size. I would like to keep a good quality but I also do not want 20-25 mins of video to take up a whole DVD.

Should I be capturing in VDUB instead?

capped DV is 13GB per hour
it sounds like vdub is saving your video uncompressed...try setting it's compression to DV

switch to using winDV to capture. it will always be in DVavi format, on the computer after capture, the same format it is on the tape.
