(using Vegas 4.0 and Audio-city)
I'm quite familiar with Vegas but I don't have any real experience at all dealing with audio so I need some help. I have an indoor recording (8 sec) and I would like the acoustic to sound like it's recorded outdoors in a wide open field. I tried to add the sound as a seperate audiotrack but it didn't sound right. Furthermore I would like the sound of the person who is speaking to be a bit further away from the microphone than he actualy is. Any suggestions? Maybe I'm to optimistic but I was hoping for really simple sollutions like filters (I'm not going to buy any software though.)
Thank you
Mobobo

put the track you have on the time line twice below each other
right click on top track and make it left
right click on bottom track and make it right only ..
right click on bottom track and select properties and reverse phase --
render out a mono track and call it temp2.wav
remove all tracks from time line
and put back the orig. stereo track from the media pool on track 1
next put on track 2 the file temp2.wav
go to properties of temp2.wav and reverse phase
adjust volume of temp2.wav for removal desired of room noise ....
put a high pass filter on the output master track at about 80-100hz and a rolloff of HF at 8khz , 10 db down at 20khz
render to a new stereo file ..
may not work in some mic'ng situations or if orig. channels were not in acoustic phase"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
to keep him moving away from the mic more .. increase the high pass filter point and lower the HF roll off to a lower value , you can some compression also ...

you are reducing the reverberation of the room using this method ..
as i said will not really work if mono sound or a few other reasons ...
high pass and rolloff are terms used in equalization and are found in both the default eq filter and the parametric filter ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
anyway for outdoor sound you dont add anything - you take away .. there are little or no reflections .. it is a very dry dead sound ... very little low end or ambiance ..

That helped a lot. I addet a "grafic equalizer" and ajusted the Hz-values and it worked ok. Thank you very much.

BJ_M,
A little OT, but thanks on this one too! I've been spending most of my efforts on video, this has prompted me to spend a little more time audio as well. -
wow! i didn't know you could take reverb away!
I've got a few things that sound a little too "live"...can't wait to try it out!
