Just for the sake of it I have tried to download some video clips to my new mobile (Samsung E720). I have used ffmpeg (SUPER GUI) to convert AVI's (DV codec) to MPEG4, 352*288. I have tried both AAc and MP3 audio, but all I get is silence. If I upload video from the phone "Media Info" shows the Audio track as 0Bps, 8Kz, AMR.

I have tried various combinations of frequency and bit-rate to no avail. Can anyone help? - even a lead to a decent mobile phone forum would help, or suggest an alternative tool

Did you try AMR? Maybe that is all it supports. Also ffmpeg's mp4 output is not 100% spec compliant. You might want to try remuxing via mp4box.

Thanks for the input folks - apreciated. I'll get my head around the AMR format (new to me) and post back. Just when I'm comfortable with all that I need to do re. making home DVD's (exotic angling trips) I have to mess around with this new phone, I've spent the best part of a day on this already!!!

OK, Success !! Extracted the audio track with ffmpeg, converted to AMR with 'Audio Commander' and then re-muxed with YAMB.
