  1. I have some avi files that contain 16:9 data. I try to burn a DVD and during playback, even with DVD player set to 16:9 or LB The pictures are still "squeezed" I don't want to buy a program to fix this as I only have four files. I also use a Dlink DSM320 media center, and same results there.

Is there a program or any process I can do that will stretch these films?

  2. The problem is probably the DVD burning software. When burning to DVD (playable on set-top boxes) it has to be conpressed as MPEG2 (.vob in this case) video. What is probably happening, is the DVD burning software is conpressing them to MPEG as regular 4:3 video, so no matter where you play them, they're going to appear squeezed. Either you need to find out how (if it even will) to tell your software that the input video is 16:9. That way it can compress it for DVD correctly, and should also playback correctly. Get it?

The problem is that DV .avi files are the same resolution at 4:3 or 16:9, just the pixels are stretched differently in either case. In 4:3 they're .9 pixels wide, while in 16:9 they're 1.2 pixels wide (neither number is exact, just rounded to the nearest tenth). Hope this helps.

I would convert from avi to a VIDEO_TS folder containing vob, ifo ,bup files and then use ifoedit to correct the ifo video flag settings from 4:3 to 16:9 there are guides for ifoedit here. I find the best way for me is to delete the ifo's in the video-ts folder and use ifoedit to create new ones, double check the video flags are set to 16:9 and then create an iso image with folder2iso or imgtool classic and burn with dvddecrypter(all of these apps are free). If you go this way then post back if you need any more help.

    Peace.
