    Hey all,

I had two avi (divx) files, with .srt subtitles. When I played them the subtitles showed on te correct time. But now I used D.I.K.O. to convert the two .avi's to something DVD-lab Pro could recognize...

I put the subtitles in there too, but after the conversion, the subs don't show at the correct time... Well... DVD-Lab Pro gives a warning that there are "open GOBS" in the movie, has that anything to do with it?

    Well, thanks in advance

    Steven

  3. Hi!

I never worked with d.i.k.o... But, did you
convert the avis from NTSC to Pal? So, did
    you apply a FrameRateConversion?

And well... perhaps you have a suggestion what program i should use to convert Avi's to mpeg, vob or mp2?

And hmm I never saw something like framerateconversion

    Of course.

I use The Film Machine (with CCE), Avi2Dvd (with HCEnc) or DivXtoDVD to convert avi to DVD and everything is OK. If one of them not work, will work another. And all of them have frame rate conversion. Never used D.I.K.O.

    Demux with PgcDemux or VobEdit.

Author your DVD with or without subtitles using DVD-lab PRO, Muxman, IfoEdit or ReJig (for the last three you need Subtitle Creator or SRT2SUP). Use Subtitle Workshop to syncronize the subtitle.

Your issue with DVD-lab PRO is caused by the wrong frame rate. I use DLP a lot and work very well.

  7. If you are patient, you will find a lot of guides on net for almost everything. This site is one of the best places in terms of quantity, quality and well organized information. I learned a lot from here.

In 1-2 days I will go in vacation. Ask in forum, you will find somebody to give a good advice.

    okay

well I just got one question... When I play the subs just when I watch the Avi, they show at the correct time. But when I have converted the Avi to mpv, for DLP, and I convert the subs there (using framerate from source instead of 25 fps).. they still don't show at the correct time...

  9. Can you give some details? How convert you the avi to mpv/MPEG? What format do you use for subtitle, MicroDVD or SubRip? I always convert my subtitles to SubRip because is a time format and is independent by the frame rate. Use SubRip in DLP and youre subtitle will remain syncronised.

Subtitle Workshop have a very useful feature: you can syncronize the subtitle with the movie very easy, you only need to know the first and the last subtitle dialog. Play the movie and write on paper the time where appear the first and the last dialog, press Control+B (Edit/Timings/Adjust/Adjust subtitles), write the values you have on paper and the subtitle is syncronized. The result depend how the accurate is the syncronisation of the original subtitle, but in most cases this method produce very good results. Subtitle Workshop have a lot of more useful features, for example you can play the movie (the avi) in SW and syncronise live every dialog.

    Details:

I use a program called gui4ffmpeg now to convert the .avi to mpg.. And the subtitles from this movie are .srt format... that's MicroDVD isn't it?...

And then I demultiplex the mpg to Elementary Streams in DVD lab pro

  11. No, srt are SubRip format.
Which frame rate has the avi? You can find this loading it in GSpot.
Does the created mpg have the same framerate? Use also GSpot to look at.
How do you play the created mpg with subtitles to check synchronization? I would suggest Media player classic with Directvobsub (or VSfilter) filter. In this case the mpg and srt should have the same name (exept the extension) and be in the same folder.
The last it is better to play the muxed mpg (not elementary mpv) as some players doesn't get the time right with elementary video files.
I would suggest to use another encoder. ffmpeg (libavcodec) sometimes goes beyond the specs. I would suggest HCenc with avisynth (should be ok as gui4ffmpeg uses also avisynth scripts (avs))
