    Hi.
I'm making a DVD with DVD Lab Pro v1.6. It have worked great but I have now fixed new drive to my machine and installed Windows 7 64bit instread of Windows XP 32bit.

When I now generates subtitle the program crash. I make my changes, press Subtitle Stream folder, it generates and when its done the program crash.

The old folder for the Subtitle Stream folder is in the Administrator Desktop on XP system. I have tested to make Documents and Settings changeable for all, made all the folders so DVD Lab Pro can read/write in that folder (BUT Windows 7 some times nags about needs Administrative permissions WHEN IT HAS IT AND IT WORKS GREAT TO READ/WRITE. Maybe this DVD Lab Pro crashes on?)

I have tested to place the working folder at the same place as the old drive (ALL FILES, Including that above) but it still craches. (If this had worked I could have accepted even when files is shattered all over the place.)

I have tested to edit the .dal file to change the folder location of .sp1 file but DVD Lab Pro wont open that changed file.

I have made DVDs with subtitle in the same installation of DVD Lab Pro under same Windows 7 installation so it is not the programs but it is something with this project.

I have no idea why DVD Lab Pro crash. I have tested everything I can, putting files at the same location as old system drive but still crash.

I would like to have all the files in one place, different locations of all the files, because I then can find them easier and logic structure.

    Does anyone have any idea?

(Maybe try run Windows 32bit under Parallells OS just for this disc?)

  2. Well, now hold on here. You say you have correctly authored DVD with subtitles on this OS, right? Well, first, either change the file locations to what worked before or verify that the current setup works with one of the older projects that functioned correctly.

Seems like that right there would tell you that the file locations are not at all involved, or is there something else you are leaving out?

Try this project with NO subtitles. Examine what is different with this set of video files and the others that worked. SOMETHING is different or it would work, like the others did.

ISOLATE and IDENTIFY. Verify a working setup. Use the problem project and eliminate subtitle. If that works, examine carefully the subtitle file, run it thru Sub Magic and/or Sub Wizard, could be a small, minor error in the file.

Anything useful in the error log, if any?

I have made OTHER DVDs with subtitle with same installation of DVD Lab Pro and Windows 7 and have worked great. (I have mot then one DVD project with subtitle. The project that has problems was first created under WinXP installation) I have tested to put my "non working subtitle generating" DVD project at the same place as old drive, even the .sp1 (File created first time generating a subtitle. Cant change location of this file anywhere in DVD Lab Pro. When location choosen you cant change it, what I know.) file in Document and settings (foul hack because I could not by default enter that folder in Win7. It's a new file structure in Win7 then WinXP (Users instead of Documents and settings folder). There is a Documents and settings folder in Win7 but just for backward compability.) but didn't work.

As I wrote before I tested to edit the .dal file (Project file for DVD Lab Pro) to new location for .sp1 file but DVD Lab Pro will not open that file. I have even tested to place the project files in the exact same folder as in the WinXP installation but still crashes when generating a subtitle.

The only thing I can think if is that the weird nagging from Win7 about administrative rights when I fixed so I can read and write under Documents and settings.

I maybe need to add: This project has a subtitle but I want to make some small changes. It worked great to edit the subtitle under WinXP but make changes, or not even a change but just regenerating the subtitle in Win7 crash DVD Lab Pro.

It is when I generate the subtitle in DVD Lab Pro, not generating anything ells, it crash. It crashed then the subtitle generating is complete and its going to save the generating subtitle or something.

I have tried to search for any log file with no luck.

  4. Re-create the project using only the basic video, audio, and subtitle files. The previous project created under the previous OS is likely referring to various fixed and temporary files and locations that no longer exist and, particularly without a detailed log to refer to, is just going to be an exercise in frustration to try and fix.

The EXTREMELY IMPORTANT missing info was that the original project was created with a totally different OS. THAT is almost certainly what is causing your problem. I don't use DVDlab, maybe someone who does has more detailed info on file locations.

I hoped not to have to do that because the disc is about 99,9% complete and it is a lot of recreating to do. The project works great to work with under Win7 and its only the subtitle generating part that don't work. I will maybe some day test to recreate that part and hope it works. I still have the old drive and edit the project from that old drive.

It wasn't missing but not clearly written. I quote my self:

  6. Then finish the project with NO subtitles and add them in with different software.

You stated you had upgraded, that is not the problem. You did NOT state at first that the project in question was created under the old OS. New projects work, the old one does not. There's the problem.

Did you try deleting the currently listed subtitles from the project, then adding them in again from another location, after copying them there, of course. Use a subtitle location from a current project that is known to be working. Wouldn't hurt to change the name of the subtitle file after copying, and save the project after deleting current subtitle entry, close program, re-open, add "new" subtitle file.
