I got a video and the information shows in AVIcodec as

    Video : 590 MB, 655 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 720*480 (4:3), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
    Audio : 115 MB, 128 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported
I want to convert it to dvd format so I can play it on my dvd player. My TV display is not widescreen TV. I think it's a 4:3 TV.

I read a couple of aspect ratio article and I still can't seem to understand the whole thing. Since my video is at 720x480 wouldn't that make it 1.5 ratio not 4:3 like wat AVIcodec display. Also if it's really 720x480 then I wouldn't need to resize the video to make it look right on my DVD player with my 4:3 tv correct?

you will have to change the frame rate -- it is PAL frame rate .. though the size is for NTSC

  3. Thats a "PAL" source, are you sure its not 720 X 576? That a whole different "kit and kaboodle". Search Pal to NTSC conversion in forum.
    Quality is my policy.

That is what I got from AVIcodec so I'm assuming its PAL sinces 25.0 fps. Would I need to convert it though. I'm currently using MainConcept Encoder and I can set the Output format as NTSC. I'm not sure how it does it or how it will affect the AR though.

you are in canada -- you will need to change it to ntsc ...

yes - you could run it through MC encoder - not the prefered way though ..

dont worry about the aspect ratio - that is correct on what it is ..

if you use thefilmmachine - it will do the frame rate conversion using avisynth for you ..

  6. One thing I have learned about downloaded video files - you cannot safely assume ANYTHING.

The only thing you KNOW is that you have a file with a 25.0 framerate, which would be correct for PAL, and a 720x480 resolution, which would be correct for NTSC.

SFAIK, this file as it exists now would not be correct for any transmission system currently in use, therefore no assumptions can be made about the original source. It is highly likely it was encoded by some form of idiot, and it is probable that there will be other encoding anomalies and/or poor quality.

avisynth huh? I took a look at it. Seems very complicated. I'm kind of new in the encoding scene so it seems difficult for me to use that program unless there was a newbie guide out there for it.
