  1. Have an iMovie DVD (VOB files) aspect ration 16:9. I want to letterbox the files so they will play undistorted on an NTSC TV 4:3. I can redo the entire movie in iMovie and it will do this - too much work.
How can I transform my 16:9 VOB files into 4:3 letterboxed VOBs??
I have MPEG Streamclip, ffmpegx, OSEx etc.
    Any ideas would be appreciated

Use myDVDedit to edit the ifo file. Tell it your source is 16:9 and it should automatically letterbox on a 4:3 TV with the DVD players settings set for a 4:3 TV.

Typically a 16:9 DVD is automatically flagged to play letterbox on a 4:3 TV. You shouldn't have to do anything.

Download and open the freeware application myDVDedit. Choose your VIDEO_TS folder. Select one of the VTS sets and click the IFO button in the lower window. You'll see a button showing the aspect ratio. It should be either 16:9 auto Pan&Scan & Letterbox or 16:9 auto Letterbox. If it isn't, you can change it here (except you first have to change permissions on the VIDEO_TS folder to allow Read & Write).

  4. In my experience all DVD players, when given a 16:9 to play on a 4:3 TV, do the letterboxing automatically. you do not need to do anything at all.
