  1. So I'm having no trouble using DVD Decrypter to join the VOP files into a single MPG, and I love Womble's keyboard shortcuts for editing. Snappy! The question is how to get this back onto DVD without drama.

I already own Nero for CD-burning purposes. I used NeroVision Express to create a new DVD. Easy enough, but for two quick questions:

    1. It spent 20 minutes "transcoding" the MPG file. Is it re-encoding this (and losing quality?) or just splitting up the large MPG file into several VOB files?

    2. I couldn't figure out how to insert chapter markers in the video, and so these have no chapters...

I wouldn't touch NVE because it cand and does sometime transcode and reduce quality without you having any say in the matter. If you have the mpeg file, use tmpgenc DVD author for creating quick menus or chapter stops and for compiling into a compliant DVD structure.

And get your keyboard fixed - it's VOB, not VOP

Nero may not be the best way to go for what you want. If the MPEG-2 video files are DVD compliant, you need to 'author' them to convert to a DVD video format.

That is where chapters and menus are done. Try TMPGEnc DVD Author. It has a trial period and is easy to use. Other authoring programs can do it also. Nero may be transcoding, it does that at times. A real authoring program can do better.

P.S. And I hope you mean 'VOB' files.

EDIT: gunslinger was faster on the keyboard, but it seems we have similar opinions.

Look to the left under 'Authoring' for more info. <<<<

... or use the freeware ones - IFOEdit, DVDAuthorGUI and GUI for DVDAuthor ...

Check out the DVD Authoring section in the Tools section for more.
    If in doubt, Google it.
