    Am buying a scanner but would like recommendations from those in the know on what brand and model to buy. Would like one good enough to scan photos with good results and would like to stay under $150. Could anyone please help. Thank you very much.

    The little Canon "Canoscan" ones are awesome....and are USB powered as well. I have two of them(Canoscan N670U).

    i have a canoscan lide500 scanner and it is awesome. it has a film scanner as well. i paid about $249 for it (australian)don't know what it is worth other places. beautiful bit of equipment.

  5. I have a Canon LiDE35. As Hech says, it only requires a USB plug and no power - it draws everything from the USB socket. It is amazingly light, portable and no-fuss. The quality of the scans are brilliant, too. I would definitely go with a Canon scanner and if I were choosing another scanner, I would have the LiDE35 again.
