Am buying a scanner but would like recommendations from those in the know on what brand and model to buy. Would like one good enough to scan photos with good results and would like to stay under $150. Could anyone please help. Thank you very much.

The little Canon "Canoscan" ones are awesome....and are USB powered as well. I have two of them(Canoscan N670U).

I have a Canon LiDE35. As Hech says, it only requires a USB plug and no power - it draws everything from the USB socket. It is amazingly light, portable and no-fuss. The quality of the scans are brilliant, too. I would definitely go with a Canon scanner and if I were choosing another scanner, I would have the LiDE35 again.
