    I don't recall seeing this asked before so here I go...
    Is there an application that will covert real movie format to another? I have heard bad things about the real player software and I don't really want to install it on my computer.

    You could also use MPC with the QuickTime and RealMedia plugins

    The least impact way to play realmedia files is mplayer. Only requires that you copy a few real dll's to its codecs dir.

    mencoder can also convert to other formats.
