I have a load of Real Player files
I really don't wan to install Real Player if I can avoid it

I've researched into what I can do to not use Real Player itself and play the files

    One option: Real Alternative
I can't get my head round it yet, but what I understand is that I can install a load of Codecs that will allow me to play Real Player files from Windows Media player

Having to install a 'load of extra codecs' worries me a lot

    http://www.codecguide.com/download_real.htm
Erm... it doesn't look like a professional website!
I've run the file through virustotal.com and all is clear

But: do I have any reason to still be paranoid?

Is there a standalone NON installing player??

The other option I'm considering is WinAmp
But: again, I just don't like: it overloads too much

Question: do the people behind Real Player live in a cave and don't have any feedback from the world?
Do they not know how much it's hated by everyone on the planet?

    Thanks!

  2. if you download real alternative from the author's site all you have to do is run the installer. it comes with media player classic as a video player which is a pretty good one.

safer than installing the "real player" for sure.

Have avoided installing RealPlayer for years now. Got tired of those constant popups and worthless tidbits annoying me constantly. If it still does that today, then it's time for Real to have a reality check...

    Yeah, I know, bad joke...
I hate VHS. I always did.

Download Mplayer, the 13MB codec download that goes with it http://www.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/codecs/windows-essential-20071007.zip , and MPUI. Plays most of the RM files I've had.
