  1. I'm not really sure if this is a question for these forums but then again maybe they are the perfect place.

I realize that there are a ton of programs based on VirtualDub and I am curious to actually how many there really are (or at least an approximation.)

Here is what I recall as programs based on VirtualDub:

    VirtualDubMod
    VirtualDub-MPEG2
VirtualDub-MP3 (Where is this one, or is it just another way of saying VirtualDub-Mp3-Freeze)?
    VirtualDub-Mp3-Freeze
    VirtualDubMPG2 (This actually VirtualDub-MPEG2?)
    VirtualDubOGM (Homepage?)
    VirtualDubAVS (Homepage?)
    Nandub

Also, why do you think VirtualDub and VirtualDub spinoffs are so popular?

    I think because:
    1. It's free
    2. It's open-source (this is probably why so many "based ons")
    3. It's easy as heck to use
    4. It does a heck of a nice job for a free program

  2. There's also a withdrawn version of VirtualDub, 1.4.3, I think, that Avery Lee wrote that includes Divx 3 export and import. Some suits yapped about it so he yanked it.

VirtualDub is popular because Avery Lee is a kick-ass programmer. VDub runs filter operations about an order of magnitude faster than any other app I know of. It's also got more types of video filters than any other app I know of.

spectroelectro - you need to spend more time with avisynth. It rivals VDub for filters, and is probably 3 - 2 times faster on most operations. What avisynth lacks is a GUI and user friendliness.

Another is DivXRepair. It's a front end to VD.

  6. I figured DivXRepair but it did'nt seem like a frontend or based on since it doesn't actually look too much like VirtualDub or really act like it, but looks can be decieving.
