  1. Hello,

Last Weekend, I uninstalled a program (Route Riter for Train Simulator) and then clean totally with Total Uninstall. I think I do a bad when when saying Yes to remove all the shared files unneeded.

Now I'm not able to start VirtualDub. I run the exe and I see the hourglass for less than 1 second and nothing happens. All other programs seems to run normally.

I tried reinstalling Windows Scripting Host (some files were uninstalled and recovered by windows system file protection) but that dioesn't help

    The files recovered were:
    c:\windows\system32\wshom.ocx version: 5.6.0.8820.
    c:\windows\system32\riched32.dll version: 5.1.2600.0.
    c:\windows\system32\dx8vb.dll version: 5.3.2600.2180.
    c:\windows\system32\asycfilt.dll version: 5.1.2600.2180.
    c:\windows\system32\stdole2.tlb version: 3.50.5014.0.
    c:\windows\system32\olepro32.dll version: 5.1.2600.2180.
    c:\windows\system32\scrrun.dll version: 5.6.0.8820.

Do you know if one of these file is responsible of the non working of virtualdub ?

    I have XP SP2 Pro.

Have you attempted a total uninstall of VirtualDub, TMPG mpeg editor, and Lavalys Everest ... followed by a reinstall? If you're trying to install over the top of existing software, you might encounter issues you'd not normally encounter.

I've encountered issues with DVDshrink on my notebook (which has Windows Media Center Edition on it). When I merely reinstall, the reinstall doesn't take. BUT, when I totally uninstall it and then reinstall, everything is back to normal. I've already had to do this twice ... think it's an incompatability with MCE in the background. But the uninstall followed by reinstall seems to do the trick.

  4. Yes I've tried that, I even run SFC to check the system files.

The only things I do this day was:

Uninstall of RouteRiter -> Install New Version
Uninstall Nero 7 -> Nero Clean Tool -> Install New Version

It's really annoying because I can't use AutoGk or similar tools

Load Filemon by Sysinternals.com and capture the activity as VirtualDub tries to load. It will tell you the .DLL it can't find.

  9. I think I found the culprit: a f***** windows hotfix.

I just tried vdub on my brand new laptop (only msoffice, painshop pro, java and visual studio are installed) and of course also all the windows hotfixes ==> result vdub is not working too.

Now I just try to find what hotfix is crappy.
