  1. I am using DVR-109 DVD burner.

The problem is that DVD-Rs I copied can only be played half of movie, then movies freeze. I have tried playing movies on 3 different DVD players and DVD-ROM, none of them can read last chapters from DVD-Rs. Also I tried to use different software, no luck.

    Any idea?

    Thanks

Most likely cause, from your description, is bad media (as suggested above).

What kind of blank media have you experienced this on? What speed are you burning it at?

The fact that the freezing often is worse late in the disc is (most often) an indication that the dye at the the outer edges is "running" or that it is not sealed properly, or is more exposed to the elements and degradation. Many people set the software so it avoids burning at the outer edges because of this (for example, they make sure the total capacity to be burned in less than 4.2 GB, or even 4.1 GB). However, this is not really the solution, just a workaround. The fact is that they are still using bad media, which may begin to cause problems months or years from now.

Similarly, some would suggest to look to your burning speed, and they might also be right... in some cases. Burning at speeds beyond what the burner can handle, or beyond what the firmware can handle, or beyond what the media can handle can tend to cause more errors. There are software programs that let you test for any burning errors, and the differences at different speeds have proven to be dramatic in some cases. However, the reality is that this issue is still mostly just a workaround... In so many of those cases where problems develop, they tend to show up on media that is questionable, or third class stuff, or even fourth class stuff.

The only real solution is to buy better quality blank media, and make certain it is blank media that your burner likes, and also that your players also like. But then, the best media tends to also be the most compatible, simply because it is manufactured to the highest specs and has undergone stricter quality control.

NO, putting Labels on the discs have been known to cause the same problem you are experiencing.

  7. As above, no labels.
Most agree that Taiyo-Yuden is a great brand to try. Here's a link if you're in the US to an excellent Internet retailer, RIMA:
    http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=R&Product_Code=1736-5...ory_Code=DMR8X

The 50-pack is the same price as the 100-pack at this time, so you might as well try that first.

    Best of luck,
