  1. I have been backing up my dvd collection because some older films I have are getting scratched. So when I buy a new DVD now, I copy it right away. However, I am having some skipping problems toward the end of the film. I am ripping with DVD Decrypter.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to how I can prevent future skipping? I suppose I need to give more details as to the process I am using. Just let me know what information I can provide. I can provide screen shots if necessary.

As a second question - with relation to the first - how do I RIP or convert such films so that there is no DVD menu screen. If that solves the skipping problem I would gladly make copies of only the film itself. Much obliged for any help offered.

    Cheers!

Sounds more like a media problem. You might try making the copy smaller so that it does not burn so close to the edge of the disc. I have DVD2one set at 4350mb. and it comes out to 4.24 gig.

Bad media, or a heat issue with your DVD player.

Probably the easiest way to do movie only is to reauthor in DVDShrink. You can set No Compression if you don't like the way DVDShrink shrinks things, and then load it into DVD2One or whatever you want from then on.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. I will try to use DVDShrink to see what happens. However, with the first suggestion, I currently have DVD2One set to the same Mb as yours and am getting 4.24 gigs as well. And you are having no problems with your DVDs? Maybe it's a ripping problem.

Like I mentioned, I will try the DVDShrink option, but any other suggestions would be appreciated as well.

    Thank you!

  5. If it was a ripping problem your utility would probably have said so - try playing the files from your hard disc with a software player on your PC and see if the problem persists.

Personally my money is on your choice of media...

  6. really? you think it's my choice of media? What media do you suggest? Is there a top quality DVD-R?

  7. I'd look up your player(s) in the list to the left and see which discs have worked well for other people with the same hardware.

It's also worth pointing out there seems to be some "regional variation " in media, in that some manufacturers like Ritek seem to be putting out decent media here in the UK, but selling dodgy stuff elsewhere if the forums are anything to go by.

Don't confuse manufacturer with brand - very few brands are actually made by the company on the label. Personally I tend to use Ritek 04 or 05 media for my DVD-R, MKM for dual layer +R and find Taiyo Yuden to be good but not worth the extra cost... your mileage my vary, but I do suggest you look up your player and see what works with it.

Writing to a disc is only half the story, it's a coaster if you can't read it back on your target device.
