  1. hi, i would like to know how to convert an avi file into a mpg file, but without affecting the video resolution and quality, regardless if the final video size is bigger than the original.
i've tried with winavi converter, but without results. can anyone can help me with this topic?

Doesn't matter. MPEG1/2 is lossy so you will always loose quality. I guess you could do lossless AVC in an mpg though.

That said, with a suitably hight bitrate you shouldn't be able to see the quality loss.

Figure out what you have. AVI is a container. You can't convert an empty container to anything.

  5. Conversion from AVI to MPEG is a lossy conversion. You have to judge the quality of the video which is acceptable to you. Dont use WinAVI, use good encoder tools like TMPGEnc, Main Concept or others. Guides are available on this forum.

...like the rest - there's no way to convert AVI to mpg without quality loss, but supposing you have a DivX or XviD AVI, a mpeg bitrate of about 4x DivX/XviD bitrate usually does the source full justice. And use a dedicated encoder, not some once-click-wonder application like WinAvi for best result.
But this isn't really at home in the "DVD to (S)VCD/AVI" forum, is it?
