I have a couple xvid files encoded with AC3 sound. Right now the only software I have that will play them with sound is Nero Showtime. My problem, however, is getting these converted to DVD. Nothing I have will accomplish this because of the AC3. I thought NeroVision might be able to do this, but no sound.

I tried to extract the sound track with Vdub, but it failed.
Trial version of DVD MovieFactory also failed.

I did see the user guides on how to extract the sound, but since I really need a much better encoder and authoring program, I was considering getting TMPGenc Express and TDA with the AC3 plugin. Would this accomplish what I need to do?

    TIA

install the ac3 codec in the tools section at the left and encode the avi in the encoder of your choice , like tmpgenc

demux the ac3 w/ virtualdub - guides to the left also ..

then author the disk and burn it

  5. Yeah my vote for the Film Machine, particularly if you are doing PAL to NTSC conversions. It adjusts the audio flawlessly.

If you have mutli-channel AC3, demux them off first and keep a copy. Use DivxtoDVD to convert the avi. This will reduce the AC3 to 2 channel. No problem. Demux the video from the new DVD files you have created, the re-author using the original multi-channel AC3 you saved earlier.

    Or:
    Demux audio (VirtualDubMod is easiest)
Encode AVI video only to DVD specs m2v with dedicated mpeg encoder (MainConcept, TMPGenc)
Feed demuxed AC3 and m2v to authoring app (TMPGEnc DVD Author). Most, if not all athoring apps take (and even prefer) elementary streams.
