When using TMPGEnc to convert AVI to MPEG, under Setting, Audio, then "MPEG-1 Layer II", how can I set the bit rate beyond 384 kbits/second? The pull-down menu only allows at most 384.

384kb/s is the limit. If it's not high enough, you might want to try PCM.
