  1. I did a search to find a similar topic but some of the responses are confusing, so i will list certain requirements and hopefully you will be able to help me. Thank you in advance.
I need to know what software i will need to create dvd menus
    1) i want to use Adobe Photoshop, so the software must be compatible with Photoshop
    2) i am a graphics student, so i am more interested in creating menus that are visually appealing (the design of the menu) rather than creating menus with loads of advanced features (such as motion, sound etc.)
    3) When designing these menus i would like to work with a lot of freedom, unlike TMPGEnc where you are restricted to the templates

If more info is needed please reply
    THANK YOU

Well, most authoring apps support menus (that's really one of the man tasks for authoring). DVD-Lab is one of the most flexible. You have 100% freedom to do whatever you want with a menu, within the DVD specs. Of course, freedom comes with a price - DVD-Lab takes some more getting used to than TDA, and you may even have to read the manual!

  3. And if you don't mind reading a manual, try DVD Architect 3.

If you want freedom in design you need only these tools :

    Avi2mpeg2
    Virtualdub
    Besweet (plus addon files)
    Avisynth (plus addon files)
    Ifoedit
    Vobedit
    The Gimp (plus addon scripts)
    Dvdauthorgui
    Pgcedit

From here there is nothing you cannot do in dvd authoring

Best yet - there all freeware

For things such as motion logo's and more

    Blender
    Wink

    Extra's

Autoit - automate tasks you do all the time

Ah ... I feel the need for another guide coming on ....

  5. thanks for the all the replies
DVD Architect looks amazing, mainly because of the example screenshot, but $800 is too pricey

Bjs you have provided a good selection and because they are all freeware and can try them out instantly, thanks. You mentioned Autoit, what is that and are there any tutorials for the list of software u have provided

DVDLab looks ok but the example design given in the screenshot does not look so good, will DVDlab let me improve on that

is there anyplace where i can see screenshots or videos or diagrams of these programs in action
    THANK YOU
any more suggestions or comments would be appreciated

I hate Encore, it's crap because it's full of bugs and only respects part of the DVD spec. But it uses PSD!

I use DVDWS2, DVDSP and DVDit!
    Mostly DVDWS2
