Hello, I recently uninstalled my Nimo Codec pack, ffdshow, Xvid, ac3 codecs off of my computer, and installed the K-Lite Codec Full Pack (newest one) because I heard all of the good reviews. Well my movies play fine (at least so far), but my mp3's wont play anymore.

I would go ahead and let WMP download the codecs automatically, but I'm just wondering why it won't see the audio codecs K-Lite installed. It's the Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 codec its not reading.

    So 2 questions:

    1) Why isn't WMP recognizing the codec?
    2) Was it a wise choice to switch to K-Lite?

Thanks in advance, and as always, any help is appreciated!

    1) Probably because either uninstalling the old codec pack or installing the new one screwed stuff up.
    2) No. Codec packs are just a bad idea.

For instance say it did include newer versions of ffdshow, etc. you could have just installed newer versions yourself. Much better to install what you need and update as necessary. There is nothing in the pack that you can't grab seperatly if you need it. For instance it looks like they used my compile of coreaac with updated faad.

Ok, then is it possible that I can make WMP recognize the "Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3" codec is installed?

All of my other programs recognize it, its only WMP that doesn't.

I reinstalled WMP, and it didn't help. I reinstalled K-Lite and it didn't help.

I dont know if this helps... but "Fraunhofer" isn't even in my list of codecs. So how do mp3's play in Realplayer and other media players, but not WMP. And why didn't K-Lite Install it?

I don't know what happened to 'Fraunhofer', but you can get it here:http://www.iis.fraunhofer.de/amm/download/index.html

BTW, INSTALLING ANY WHOLE CODEC PACK IS BAD NEWS. If you only use the ones you need from a pack, you may be OK, but downloading and installing the whole thing is a recipe for disaster.
