It's recommended by the Digital Goddess herself, Kim Comando.

For those who don't know, she hosts a nationally syndicated radio show offering callers help with their computers (and other tech devices).

WinAVI support also suggest that you use k-lite, as does the author of Xvid4PSP. Just about every w---z forum advocates it as well, from what I see of our students and the mess they make of their laptops.

What do the A thru V forums suggest?

I know it's a dirty word around here, but were all adults here (at least physically).

    G)-(OST Sorry I'm 3 1/2 years late removing link

Don't bother going to the link because you will not be able to view the answer (article) unless you want to subscribe for a fee. Starting at $5.95 a month but a little cheaper for longer subscriptions.

The real intent of asking of this question by including the link without disclosing that you will have to pay for the answer is a sneaky way to advertise. had I known that I would have never clicked on the link

    sorry gadgetguy

I don't think that is true, gadgetguy is a most respected..............well.............guy, round these parts.

And anyway, I can't even get the subsription page you are talking about up anyhow, all it says is "The webpage cannot be found"

Kim's site used to be free. She's cute, but not $5.95 a month cute. I still use ffdshow, Real Alternative, Quicktime Alternative, MPCHC, and VLC player and haven't found much of anything that won't play.

K-lite 'might' be useful if you just installed the needed codecs, but most just throw them all at the PC, irregardless of the damage they can do to existing codecs. And unless they changed it, it won't uninstall cleanly. I don't play 'Russian Roulette' with my systems and a program like that.

Agreed. Gadget guy wouldn't spam the board. He is a well respected member of this forum for years. If that post had come from someone who had just joined then I'd agree with you but coming from gadget guy... no way.

Sorry Joe but you are wrong.

Did you have to dig up this thread for that accusation? What a troll!

At least gadgetguy is much more active than you in these forums. Sad that what little you participate in this site is wasted on a post like that.

That's the thing about reviving old threads: Some of the links contained in them may be different, or not work at all.

I was surprised to see this old thread pop up. At the time of the original post, the article in the link was free. I certainly wouldn't pay to subscribe to her site, since part of the point of this thread was to point out that she's not all she's cracked up to be. Now that the content is no longer free, I will remove the link in the original post.
@JoeBolden - Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
@eveyone else - Thanks for your kind words.

JoeBolden's quoted link remains, maybe if we ask him real nice like, he will edit out the link too.
