  1. Hi, I have the LOTR trilogy on DVD, but since I live in Brazil, they didn't give us the DTS audio on our trilogy. Importing it's too expensive. I have a friend in the US that has the DTS trilogy. Do you guys think that if he sent me the VOB containing the DTS track I could make a new DVD-R with DTS on it? Would I have to edit the DVD menu or delete the Dolby Sountrack and put the DTS on it's place? Would I have sync problems?

  2. I say forget about DTS on this one. You will have to compress the movie to fit onto DVDR and loose video quality. Just stick with your Dolby Digital.

    Hi,

I don't think that falls under "backup" rules anyway since your version doesn't have dts.

Besides I think it would be too complicated to bother with anyway. Just buy a louder subwoofer

EDIT - Besides - when you say "trilogy" are you referring to the theatrical version??? If so the Theatrical version only has DOLBY. Its the EXTENDED EDITION dvds that have the DTS track. So you'd be adding an extra 40 minutes per movie that you'd have to trim out to match up to your standard version. WAY TOO MUCH work in my opinion.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Without Dolby Digital, the dvd will not meet dvd video specifications.

The DTS track on LOTR Trilogy is DTS-ES 6.1 Surround which takes up more space than regular DTS audio, meaning a high compression for video.

  5. Oh, I didn't realize that it was an Extended Version. I guess it would but too much trouble cropping the extra material off the DVD. Thanks for the answers.

  6. Two thing you can do ask your friend to make you a copy. To me you own LOrd Of the Rings and even thow you are missing the DTS. I think it's oh ok. If you do not want to do that have your friend buy them for you and ship them with out the case to save money on shipping.

It sucks that the rip some people off when not putting in the DTS and other sets have them.

Happens all the time. That's why they're "SPECIAL" sets. The basic theater version only has dolby and one bonus disc. The extended version has dolby and DTS as well as 2 bonus discs. Also the extended version movie is split to 2 discs to include dolby, dts, and 4 commentary tracks.

Besides the regular version is 3 and a half hours long and to include dts would compress the hell out of it to squeeze it on to one disc. Hence the extended version set.

To be precise, Its 5.1 Dolby Digital EX and 6.1 DTS ES for extended editions.
