    HI,
I hope this is the right forum for this question, maybe I should put it in the newbie section. I have a Pioneer DVD-RW drive, it will read and write to reg cd's and DVD's, but it will not read or write to any cd-rw's. I guess what I am asking is will a DVD-RW read and write to cd-rw's? If so could there be a solution to this? Thanks.

It should, but it may depend on what discs you have. Your drive only supports up to 4x and 10x CD-RW discs (high-speed). 24x CD-RW discs will not work.

You could also try using another brand. Keep in mind RW media is not ment for long term storage, as discs can go bad.

The disks say 1x,2x and 4x. Thanks for the info about long term storage, thats what they would of been used for. Are the cd+rw's better?

If you want long term storage, write once media (CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R) are your best bet. All rewritable media uses phase shift technology. This means the recording layer is actually made up of a crystaline like structure which changes shape and properties when a laster hits it. These crystals are far less stable than the dyes used in write once media, and can lose their form over time which can result in data loss.

Use high quality write once media, like Taiyo Yuden, MCC, or Maxell.
