Hi there everybody, this is my first post so be fine
I got videos in Mini DVD produced with my Panasonic VDR-D220 Camcorder; as far as i have been able to see this camcorder produces Interlaced DVD (Upper field first..i red somewhere that this is the reverse order), with VBR at 704x576 pixels at 25 fps (I use the PAL system) with AC3 Stereo at 256 kb/s.
I am currently using Adobe Premiere Elements 7; sometimes i use DVD Flick just to author with prebuilt menus and so on.
I made several tryings before finding a solution, and i want to know if it's a good solution or am I missing some steps.
Currently I'm encoding VOB files from DVD to my HD using MpegStreamClip from squared5 in AVI-DV Apple with the following options :
Scan Interlaced ; 4:3
As video options i use the following :
No scaling (704x576)
Lower field first
Deinterlace Video
Mpeg/III Audio at 256 kb/s
Then i edit my avi in Premiere (with a project DV-Standard 48Hz..i noticed it automatically resizes video at 720x576 in the media list once imported) and produce an Mpeg2 DVD compliant file for author in dvdflick or directly from Premiere i burn DVD
It seems to me a good solution, assuming that using directly mpegs in premiere gave me bad results such as :
- Slow in detecting them and moving through the file
- Heavy loss of quality in final production
- Not always correctly interlaced with orrible video blurry in hor movements
- Sometimes loss of audio signal
Do you have any comments/suggestions ?? Is there something that can improve the quality/time of this process ??

You could try deselect the "Deinterlace video" and leave the avi-dv interlaced. If now mpegstreamclip deinterlaces. And convert to wav/pcm audio instead of mp3 audio if possible.
Or you might considering using a mpeg editor like Mpeg Video Wizard DVD. -
I would also recommend Mpeg Video Wizard DVD. It is a good mpeg editor with possibility of transitions on cuts and complete audio edit.
It will not re encode your file if it is DVD compliant mpeg file. -
I must be missing something.
Assuming this mpeg2 as starting video :
704x576 Interlaced Upper field first
I create a project in Premiere of 704x576 with same order as default for interlacing and import 2 files :
1 - The mpeg origin
2 - The DV-avi exported with mpegstreamclip not deinterlaced (it's 720x576 because DV-AVI can't be different i discovered)
I then generate a DVD compliant mpeg2 (720x576) stream interlaced with same order as project and source mpeg and burn a dvd with dvdflick; the result is :
1 - The mpeg file is perfectly rendered and fluent
2 - The avi file has something wrong with interlacing, it's not fluid
Any help is appreciated
