I have been given the egregious task fo re-authoring some 100 DVD projects for our company. O. K., I volunteered since I have prior editing experience, though be it all in the analogue format.
I was able use DVDDecrypt to extract some of the original files for use in Encore. Somehow some of the originals were recorded in a 352x480 resolution whereas Encore only accepts 480x 720 or better. I've tried re-editing these "rips" in Premiere Pro 1.5 but am having some rather unexplainable issues. When I have the project in the timeline and scrub over the project I see the entire movie, eventhough the movie is approximately 1 hour long and the timeline only shows up as about 33 seconds, when I play the movie it only shows the first 33 seconds even after rendering my workspace. I tried exporting my project anyway just to see what would happen and, voila, it changed the res. to a format that encore could work with. However, I guess it used an Alpha fill to correct the ratio because now it's tall and skinny. Does any bidy have any ideas as to how I can correct this anomaly? :wall:
All I need to is ad some new content as well as new menus.
Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated and highly coveted.
Thank you for your time and troubles,
Rich Eppley

Do you have to use adobe encore dvd? Maybe try some other authoring tool that accepts all dvd standard formats.

I know it won't help much but I'm jumping on this just to say that, after spending hours learning the software, I faced the same issue: Encore insists on saying that the M2V streams I've retrieved from DVD's using Decrypter aren't compliant and insists on transcoding them, the "Don't transcode" option keeps gray shaded unavailable.
Maestro and UleadWS2 accepts the same streams without any problems, and everybody knows that Maestro specifically can be very tricky when analysing M2V streams.....
Most of I do is to reauthor discs, adding menus and correcting chapter points on discs recorded on stand-alone, so at the end the sw is useless for me - of course I won't let it transcode my movies that I know are compliant.

I don't have to use Encore, that's just the program I'm used to I guess. I would be willing to try another program, Baldrick, if you have an idea there.
Thanks for your help,

I've used Ulead DVD Workshop2 quite a bit, and it does an excellent job. While I like Adobe products, they are fairly intolerant of different formats when editing or authoring.

you would probably be ok if you check the scale clips to project dimensions box in the custom settings>general menu when starting a new project. hope this helps.

Also, despite what their marketing says, PPro (and lower) really is not written to edit mpeg2 very well. There is a plug-in available that is supposed to make Premiere pretty good at editing mpeg2 from Main Concept, I think.
You could try the demo of Mpeg Video Wizard as well.I don't have a bad attitude...

Handiman.
Where is that settings option found?
Now remember, I'm a newbie to this sort of editing and sometimes get lost just starting my computer. LOL
Thanks for your all of your help.

when you load up pp 1.5 and click new project it displays the load presets tab. the custom settings tab is right next to it. click over and check the said box.
