  1. and whoever converted from NTSC to PAL just made it totally wrong, so the version on my PAL VHS has the following errors:

Colours disappear completely at times; if colour IS visible then its mainly the white noise chaos stuff.
There are horizontal lines all over the screen for most of the time

I've seen stuff like this before: When I have an NTSC tape and play it back in a player that isnt really NTSC compatible then it looks almost the way the stuff on my PAL VHS tape looks.
So now I only have the fucked up PAL tape. any way to repair the thing and at least get some of the horizontal lines out of it?

any idea how to un-ruin a NTSC-PAL conversion thats already been done?

There is very little you can do. There are a couple of avisynth filters that *might* be able to remove some of the noise - despot and it's brother (can't remember the name, sorry). But at best they will give you a blurry line instead of a sharp white one. It sounds like a combination of poor format playback and possibly even macro-vision interferance as well. No chance of getting the original tape ?

Just convert it to pure B&W and be done with it.
Or look into getting back the original tape.
