  1. Hi

A friend of mine gave me two AVI files that were encoded in AC3 DVM and XVID. I checked the codecs using AVICodec. I really want to conver them to MPG so that I can rip them in DVD format to play on my DVD player.

I used Virtual Dub which can open the AVI and can save it also to AVI, which I thought might work to open and combine both AVI's in Sony Vegas but the problem is that Virtual DUb can not read the Audio part saying that compression is not supported.

I appreciate if you can guide me to an easier way to convert those files into MPEG so that I can rip them

    Thanks

I'd start with VSO DivxtoDVD. It should be able to convert both files to DVD, and probably make them fit on a single disk. Then use Tmpgenc DVD Author or DVD Lab to create menus (if you really need them)

At a guess I'd say that Virtualdub saying the audio is not supported is possibly because you don't have an AC3 codec installed. This is then backed up by the fact that DivxtoDVD leaves you without audio. Look for AC3 Filter in the Tools section
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. Thanks, that worked.

Another question. I have AVI1 and AVI2 can I combine them into one AVI before I can use DIVXtoDVD

    Thanks

  6. You can, but you do not need. Simply load both files in correct order on divxtodvd. BTW, AFAIK if you have 5.1 AC3 you will loose it - divxtodvd will make it 2.0.
