The first time I tried converting the xvid avi to svcd, the video blinked in and out - like those very old b&w movies. Kinda like if you blinked every second. I've never seen this before so I checked the source avi. The source avi does the same thing when played. I have since found this issue with a few other avi's.
The xvid codec I am using is several years old so I think this might be the issue. I used gspot, but it says I have 3 compatible codecs installed. Now, I would just go and download the latest version of xvid but it took me awhile (this was a few yrs ago) to find all the right codecs that allowed me to view and convert everything that I wanted. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if they know of a solution.
    Thanks for any help.

The codec version is not embedded in the avi. It only reports the FourCC used, which is why GSpot may say you have the necessary codec installed. It can't tell you that you need to update your codec version. Download and install the latest version of the codec used to encode your AVI. They often incorporate new features in codecs as they mature. Getting good results with a codec that is a few months out of date is questionable. A codec that is a few years out of date is a no-brainer.
Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything...

Thank you. I just wanted someone else's input before I tried the new codec. And yes, that did it.
