I am getting random errors when recording live TV from scheduled recordings, Random because it doesnt happen every time, but over 1/2 the time, and it only seems to happen during scheduled recordings and not when I decide to record while already watching the TV.

I am getting a generic XP error for "ATIMMC.exe has encountered a problem" window message, and this seems to come up at the end of the recording, when I am assuming the MMC is closing the file and ending the recording. This happens on any size recording - 30minutes, 1hour, 2 hours, whatever. I have tried recording both to MPEG-2 and to AVI with no difference. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

  2. I do have a suggestion, but chances are you won't like it. I had nothing BUT trouble with MMC, everything from scheduled recordings to tv-on-demand, system locking requiring a hard reboot... ALL of my problems went away with MMC 9.03

I know 9.06 is out now, but I was unfortunate enough to install it the day it was first released, and had nothing but trouble, so I'm gunshy now. But I can at least attest to 9.03 being quite an improvement from 8.9

Hope it helps. Hey, at least it's free to try. As always, I recommend you GHOST your system first, as it's the only fool-proof method for ATI MMC uninstalls.

    Good luck.

Will try the 9.03. GOD I hate anything to do with installing/uninstalling MMC as it ALWAYS seems to leave a remnant of itself behind. If the board itself werent so good...

as additional info, I have been getting random "DXG.SYS" (or was it dvg.sys?) and "WIN32K.SYS" errors when playing videos thru Media Player Classic, which other support has pointed to possible video driver problems. perhaps a clean driver/MMC install on 9.03 will be good...

I have been searching and searching for a replacement for the MMC but have NOT to date found ANYTHING that will work properly and record with the clarity that MMC does *when it is working*.

MMC 8.9 was the likely issues

ATI MMC 8.7 and 9.02 are most stable.

Not tried any of the newer ones just yet. Probably not much difference. What I have works, no reason to upgrade.

  5. 9.06 is the first version that seems to work correctly.
All previous versions had problems for on a 9200AIW.

isnt there a program somewhere, possibly even from ATI, that is supposed to completely remove an MMC install? In the past I have upgraded/downgraded a few times (clean HD since then) and most of the time had trouble with remnant files affecting the new install

  7. A number of programs will uninstall from the installer. You can also search the registry for ATI entries and choose which to delete. I've done that before with Ulead software.

OK, ATI is total CRAP. The 9.03 would not install - got errors "atisserv registry access failed to startup" after uninstalling it and installing it twice, each time using complete different directories for everything. Then went brave and tried the 9.08, but that got me a BSD after a few minutes of recording and then afterward the TV would either not start at all or would lock.

Will now try the 8.7, if that doesnt work I will re-install the 8.9, which is the only one in the past that would install and work on this computer. Then I am going out in search of an nVidia alternative to the ATI...

The nVideo video card is wholly inferior. Graphic is good competitor, but not video. The error lies within your registry.

well nVidia may not be on par with ATI but if ATI doesnt work then it is useless. at least there are viable software solutions to scheduling and recording with the hardware-based cards, unlike the ATI. I have looked for alternatives but there arent any - software such as snapstream is geared towards pentium chips and hardware-based encoder cards

And not so sure about the registry, maybe but there is little else installed other than the ATI software, myHD HDTV card, directx9.c and MS Net Framework. and this after a HD format then re-install of win-xp before installing the 8.9

I will try re-format one more time and new install of 9.03, but not real hopeful on that...
