  1. Guys I have bought one FireWire with iLink 4/6 data cable

BUT When I tried to capture video it shows me video in blue/green dots and patches just like some one has placed a blue green red square patches mat in front of running video.

and it also makes files per frame containing same color patches.

I have installed drivers and everything is perfect.

Using Win XP with Services Pack 2 with DirectX 9 having all updates.

    Using WinDV for capturing.

One more thing is preview of video is same as patches every where whether I use WinDV or Ulead or anything else.

    Please help!

Have you tried a different capture program just for a test?

This might be of help / interest:

Also, check out the whole thread as there's instructions in there for uninstalling and re-installing the firewire card.

Use Windows Device Manager to see if the card's working OK.

Other possibilities are dodgy cable, dodgy cam, dodgy PCI slot.

The fact it's happening on more than one capturing app suggests a hardware problem to me. Also, WinDV is very reliable.

I hope that helps. Good luck...

  4. I have tried with WinDV and Ulead ..... same view with both Apps.

Also it dosent come all the time ..... yesterday I was capturing from one DV tape it suddenly started coming after about 20 minuttes of capture.

Also I checked Device manager but could not found any prob with device.

cam is also working perfect through USB. Only cable and card is new.

I seem to recall a problem with some firewire cards and WinXP SP2. I think Microsoft had a patch (or maybe it was just a revert back to SP1 firewire drivers) at their support pages...

you mentioned the problem after 20 minutes -- which is around the 4gb mark for dv capture. Not sure if that has any relevance, but it was interesting you mentioned the 20-minute mark...

  6. No...... Only Yesterday it started after 20 minutes. But some times it starts as soon as I plug the cable and some times not.

I have XP with SP2 .... where can I locate the patch?

I had a similar intermittent problem like this of blocks in the video but only from one of my DV camcorders. Turned out the back tension tape guides needed adjustment in the camcorder. Have you tried a different camcorder to prove that it is definitely a computer problem?

Did you follow this link I posted?

Whether it's your solution or not, I don't know. BUt at least it's something for you...

Pretty sure the Firewire 800 uses 9 pin port and the OP mentioned 4/6 pin cable so it's a safe bet it's a older 400 Firewire card.

Firewire 800 is not really supported in Windows anyhow (Mac only support last I checked a few months ago) and few devices can use the 800 speed.

Windows does support firewire 800 connections (not sure if there are third party drivers needed) but many Gigabyte motherboards come with IEEE 1394b (firewire 800) connections.

Have you tried another cable? Another port? Checked for IRQ conflicts? Often the best way to solve these problems is trial and error.

It also might be worth noting if your firewire connection is based on the motherboard or a PCI card.
