Hi, I'm using the newest version of Nero. My DVD burner is 4x and it says that its burning at 4x. However, it only uses 50% of CPU power and it takes 30-45 min to burn a full DVD. I know that this time is about twice that of what it should be burning. Is this because its only using half the CPU power, and if so why is it doing that. All the settings are default. I have windows 2K Pro. CPU: P4 3.2Ghz 800Mhz FBS 1 MB cache, 60GB HD, 1GB RAM

Make sure you have DMA set.

It could be a number of things, but CPU isn't one of them. It's most likely an issue with the media you are using, or the hard drive not being fast enough to feed a 4x burn.Check out the Band...feel free to PM me with opinions: http://www.purevolume.com/beneathitall -
I just did an ISO burn with DVD Decryptor and it said the burn speed was around 2x. I usually use Nero Burning ROM v6.6.0.12. It always says 4x (I think b/c it wants to believe its doing that even though its not). My DVD burner is HL-DT-ST-DVD+RW GCA-4040N. It came with my Dell Inspiron 9100. about 8months old. My computer specs are listed above. The media I'm using is Verbatim DVD+R. Thats all the information I can find about it. They came in a thirty pack of DVDs in thin cases, not a spindle. HOpe thats good enough, if not I'll try to get more for ya.
*EDIT* Do you think my drive just cant spin fast enough to burn at 4x? When I bought it, it told me it was a 4x DVD-Burner. Or do you think there is somehidden setting that I have on outside of the burning programs that is limiting my burn speed and thats why Decryptor said it was doing only about 2xCheck out the Band...feel free to PM me with opinions: http://www.purevolume.com/beneathitall -
Change your secondary IDE controller from PIO to DMA. If it won't allow this, uninstall the secondary IDE controller from the hardware manager and restart your PC. This is your problem.

After I uninstall it how do i reinstall it? Meaning will i need drivers or a disk or anything?
*EDIT* I was able to turn the secondary controller to "DMA if available" where before it was PIO mode. Now it says the current setting is "Ultra DMA mode"
I will give it a test and see how it worked.Check out the Band...feel free to PM me with opinions: http://www.purevolume.com/beneathitall -
I just did two ISO burns with decryptor and the time was about 15 min each. Does that sound about right?? compared to 45 min

Well, I see your specs, but not what writer you have, which is what I wondered. I have a sony 4x & getting it to do anything more than 2x usually takes a Miracle.
