Can I have a time clock running with a video? (Vegas 5)

Hi. I am doing a project in my high-school History class. I see this project is a way to show off some of my work. Here's the kicker, the group consists of 3 people which are to read a question off of a sheet (Also displayed on the Video) and have the class copy down the answers shown on the screen. The teacher suggested we not do this project with a movie editor because of the fact that people that have done this project in the past, have not given enough time to the listeners enough time to write down the answer provided on the screen. (This movie/video is going to be on a projection screen from a laptop).

What I wanted to do, was have a timer at the bottem of the screen showing them (And us, the presenters, how much time is left before the screen is taken away). There is going to be music playing, and a little narration in the video. The video will be stopped periotically for an oral presentation at a few sections in the film.. So music will be faded out, etc.. We want timers on all then slides so we know how long we have left in the presentation (We are allowed 15 minutes, and we are graded on how much we are 'on target' with our dealings with time).

I really don't mean to ask for a quick answer, but it is due thursday. As soon as everyone finishes their scripts, they will give me all of their information for importation into the movie editor.. and while I am editing, I want to just feel confident that I will beable to finish this without and quirks. OK, I've read through the description of your project three times and I still don't understand what it is you want to do. But if your teacher has advised you not to use a video editor, then why are you? If you're just showing text questions and answers it sounds more like a project for PowerPoint, or a slideshow program.

If your bent on using an NLE you could record a count down timer ( a kitchen timer) and inlay that video in the corner of your screen.

Use PowerPoint - it's perfectly suited to your needs.

Sure, you can't "show off" your video editing skills but what's the point of making something harder for yourself than it has to be? There's showing off and there's smart...

Create the questions and answers as seperate assets. Author then as question (clip) -> Answer (menu). Set the timeout on the menu to infinite, then use the remote to move on when time is up. That way there is no fixed time limit.

I have already started the Video Project. I am just going to throw in some Text Images counting down between segments whilst fading out the music. Then pausing the video at the intermissions and presenting.. leaving 3 seconds between slides to give me enough time to press pause. Thanks anyways yall
