since .vob files have the same file name, how do i put them on one dvd+r?
after i pick one .vob file, when i pick another it just overwrites the first. i imagine i might have to set them up as chapters. if this is the case, what program would you recomend to do so?

You can't just dump vob files onto a disk and have it play. You need the controlling files (.ifo) and their backups (.bup). If you have complete disk structures then you can use DVD Shrink, as suggested. If you only vobs you need to use something like Tmpgenc DVD author or DVD Lab to load the vobs, demux them to audio and video files, then reauthor them to be a DVD.

I've been doing this for a while to a friends kids movies so his kid can't wreck the originals (menu is really basic Ch.1 Ch.2 Ch.3). First failed attempt with NVE had a functional menu but the movies had crappy sound. So I used Vobblanker to replace the crappy VOBs with the appropriate compressed rip VOBs. Ran PGCEdiit in trace mode to fix the menu links. And Voila it worked. I still keep that one on my harddrive as a "template" so that nowadays whenever he buys movies for his kid or needs a replacement backup all I do is:
1. Rip movies into consecutive sub-directories with DVDShrink in full
backup mode (sometimes this method does not work in reauthor
mode).
2. Open the "template" with Vobblanker and;
replace VTS_1... with /A/VTS_2...
replace VTS_2... with /B/VTS_2...
replace VTS_3... with /C/VTS_2...
3. Run PGCEdit in trace mode to check or fix menu links.
4. ReEncode with DVDShrink and Burn...
It may be lazy but it works every time. Especially when kids wreck one every couple of months.
Note: Kids movies normally have a shorter run time than Feature films!Work for what you need...
At a job you would do for nothing :beer: -
TMPGEnc DVD Author can take multiple VIDEO_TS folders and create a spiffy menu for you in just a few clicks. Might be worth checking out - fully functional free trial for 30 days
If in doubt, Google it. -
As cheap as media is these days, why? Quality begins to suffer. Want VCR quality go ahead. But it makes little sense to do this. But to each his own. We do live in a world of "I want".
