    Hello,

Ok there are two instances that I'm thinking of.

In the movie GHOSTBUSTERS 2 there was a music video ON OUR OWN by Bobby Brown that played in the movie when it was in the theaters. I know I remember seeing it. Then its not in the video release. They didn't even release it on the DVD! What gives???? In fact you can hear the song finishing when Dana comes back to Peters apartment after the boys have been taken to city hall. Why would they remove the music video from the movie???

    Another instance:

Though I never saw it its been mentioned that the movie JOHNNY DANGEROUSLY starring Michael Keaton had a WEIRD AL video in it that was stripped from the video release. Though I know have the video on my weird al video dvd it seems really odd.

What is the purpose of this??? Surely it can't be copyright issues since they paid for the song when they made the movie.

  2. The copyright probably expired.

There were a lot of copyright issues with movies from the '70s that held up a lot of video releases in the '80s.

Slap Shot was one, that had to have the entire soundtrack replaced from popular music to generic music.
Early video versions had the original sountrack, but all TV and later video versions had the alternate soundtrack.

The Anniversary DVD version has the original soundtrack, so they were able to work out the copyrights by that time.

Five Easy Pieces was another that was held up for several years before it was able to get its first video release.
