I started getting this error suddenly when just clicking, not double clicking, on a video file.
I did a search on the internet & all I came up with is this:
Remove/reinstall codec of REALmagic MPEG-4 codec
I don't recall recently installing anything, & I can't find anything that says it's this.
Recently I also started having problems with tmpgenc.
The avi starts out with sound, but after conversion, there's no sound.
I don't know if the 2 are related or not, but I need desperate help.
These are the codecs gspot says are installed on the machine, plux xvid mpeg-4 codec which I couldn't fit in the pic:

Get rid of REALmagic MPEG-4 codec. It was just Sigma's attempt to steal XviD source code and XviD has been updated heaps since then.

This may sound bizarre, but how exactly do I do that when it's not something that I find in the add/remove box.
And, is that what's giving me the sound problem now?
It's not something that I've recently installed cause I haven't installed anything in ages. -
As far as I can remember it was just a video codec so it shouldn't effect audio.
You haven't been installing codec packs have you? -
No, I haven't installed anything on this puter for quite awhile.
I use it basically as a server, & occasionally as a converter when the file won't work on my notebook.
For some reason, not all files will work with tmpgenc on my notebook, this was one of them, so then I use the desktop to convert it when that's the case. It gives me some sort of error like it cannot open it or something on the notebook, so I just transfer it to the desktop & it works fine, or at least it has until now. Either that, or I haven't checked in awhile to make sure that whatever I converted had sound. -
I reinstalled the Sigma one & it got rid of my fatal error, & then I found it in the add/remove programs & removed it like I was told earlier in the thread.
I then went & uninstalled all the codecs I could find in the add/remove & upgraded the tmpgenc to the newest one.
Now tmpgenc freezes when I put the movie in it.
So, I figured I'd reinstall codecs if someone was willing to tell me which ones I should.
So guys, I still need help.
What codec packs should I install?
Thanks, TC -
You remove Video Codecs in Control panel / Sounds and Audio Devices /
Hardware / Video Codecs
Double click video codecs and you will then see a list of every codec you have whether you knew it or not. Click on the codec you do not want and click on "Remove".No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
Uninstall codec packs and then install codec like xvid and divx and ac3 filter and maybe ogg filter, codecs packs are the worst type to install cause they cause all types of picture screw ups and freezes and yadda yadda...,also have powerdvd installed for mpg2 playback and encoding with tmpgenc.
I think,therefore i am a hamster.
