  1. Hi

I'm concerned that my Backed Up DVD's starts freezing on the second half of the movie (Always on the later chapters).

I used two different computers with the same burner (LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S) and the same media (DVD+R don't know which brand).

I've only watched one of my backed up movies so far and it played just fine from start to finish. When I tried to watch another movie it started freezing after chapters 20 or later. And two other movies afterwards did the same. They were burnt, as I said earlier, on two different computers usind the same media and burner.

There is a considerable difference. The first movie I watched was recorded on DVD-R (It played fine), the others were DVD+R. Could this have something to do?

  2. Sounds like the DVD+R isn't quality media, or your LITEON just doesn't like that brand/ID. Try burning the DVD+R at a slower speed, or just stick to DVD-R.

  3. I am investigating similar problem myself, so far I would say mostly is media related specially if you burn eg a 4x at 8x or higher. It seems if you you burn faster than what it says on DVD it puts a freeze somewhere on the dvd and I use made in Japan dvd's on lower quality could be much worse. Recently I was burning dvd's as the same rate that says on dvd, last night I made a mistake and burned a 4x at 12x and it put a moment of freeze somewhere in the middle. There must be point on every dvd that can't pass that higher speed!

Never burn faster than the disk is rated, even if you have hacked firmware that allows it. It's only asking for trouble. They are rated at the speed because the majority will burn at that speed successfully, but the failure rate above that is too high.

  5. Did you used paper lables? If you used the lable, it might cause the
    problem.

  6. I didn't use paper labels just permanent marker.

And I just confirmed it is the DVD+R that gives me trouble. DVD-R plays just fine.

It's just that BRAND of DVD+R.

    Things to do:

    1. Update your firmware.
    2. Try another brand.

Lite-ons like +R much better than -R, clear across the board.

  8. I've changed brands and now it works just fine....

Now I'm using BenQ DVD+R and they play on all players I have...

    THANKS

Even though you say you have solved the problem with different media, you didn't and should, say which media/media ID you WERE using. Its not sufficient to say dvd+r media. The guys offering their advice need to know they haven't wasted their time.

Exactly! I have two Lite-On DVD burners and I can only assume that he used Ritek/Ridata DVD+R and the DVD-R was of a Japanese make (Fuji etc...). My Lite-On burners will not burn a usable DVD on any Ritek/Ridata discs.

    Sorry...

The media I was using is a generic DVD-R (no brand) and the ID was SKC Co.,Ltd.

Now I'm using BenQ DVD+R which ID is DAXON-AZ2-00.

    It works great.

Thanks and sorry for the confussion of not posting it earlier.
