    Hey guys,

I backed up 5 aerobic workout VHS tapes (15 minutes each) with my VCR & DVD recorder to one single DVD-R pausing recording between tapes.

Which tool can be used to define the 5 separate recordings as they are all currently recognized as a single track.

I believe my error was assuming the pauses between tapes would somehow insert a break between the 5 recordings.

I eventually I'd like all 5 workouts on a single DVD with a simple menu where I can select any of them.

The route I was going to go (though I'm sure there's an easier way) was using "Fair Use wizard" to convert the workouts on my DVD-R to 5 separate .AVI (XviD) files, then use "Convert X to DVD" to create the final result with simple menu ready to burn to a new DVD-R... The problem with that is that Fair Use recognizes the 5 recordings on my current DVD-R as one single track.

I will also need to trim some of the footage to clean up the recordings such as the parts of the recording resulting from me not pausing the DVD recorder in time before switching tapes etc...

I hope I explained my intentions sufficiently, if not, let me know what you need to know and I will try to clarify.

    Thanks,

Well, you can use Avidemux to cut each of the 5 workouts out as mpg files and then use DVDstyler or DVDflick to add a menu and burn to a dvd.

so what did you end up with after your rip? VOB files?

honestly, 5 15 minute workouts on VHS is a small amount of work.. I would just rip them out again in separate files on your HDD, then proceed with your plan

i think you can actually also rip them to separate complete DVD files on your HDD, then use DVDremake to combine them all with a simple menu..

My initial VHS to DVD rip resulted in this:

I was not able to figure out how to use avidemux to work with these files. The DVD-R plays but I get errors when trying to open it (or any of the files) in avidemux. What you see in that pic is the result of me recording 5 15 min workouts onto one single DVD-R. Now the goal is to end up with 1 single DVD-R with 5 menu selections on the main menu screen (1 for each workout). The above pictured DVD is all one single file.

Hey just wanted to share what worked for me... I first used "4Videosoft DVD to MPEG Converter" to cut up the 5 segments into seperate VOBS, then I used "Convert X to DVD" to create my Final DVD with menu for the 5 workouts.

    Thanks for the replies!

Better, easier, and with less risk to quality would have been

VOB2MPG to get the titles back to mpg files, then DVD Styler or GUIForDVDAuthor to create a DVD with a menu etc. No risk of needlessly re-encoding, and nothing over complicated like DVD Remake (honestly ?)

Hey, I'm working on the same project (archiving workout tapes). Just replying so I can find your post again easily. GUIforDVDAuthor is where I'm headed this weekend, for menu creation.
