New printable dvds from TDK

Hello,
TDK has introduced three types of inkjet printable media. Of interest, is the "photo quality".

I made an earlier post about this. The Costco in Staten Island, NY has them (50 per pack) for $30+tax.

I didn't buy them because:

1 - don't know the media ID
2 - saw that they were made inTaiwan (CMC?) [yes I held the pack in my hands and read the label]
3 - at 67 cents each, I can buy Taiyo Yudens (I'd rather be safe)

I think all TDK 8x DVD-R media in the US is TTG02. Haven't heard of any other media codes being supplied.

The spinal wrapper says 8X but my BTC/Emprex 1016im only sees it at 4X

Print area is 116mm x 39mm or 4 9/16 x 1 9/16

Yep, just picked them up an hour ago.
They are not glossy finish though. They are white matte finish

I'll add it to the media section if it hasn't been done yet

EDIT:
Think I'm going to return them as they don't burn at 8X and the printer area is not all that big. I'm used to hub printable 118x22

Plus I think the print out isn't as good as Prodisc S03/4 even after a seal coat sprayed on

Stilman I had this problem with 4x's TDK on a Lite On 451s they only showed up as 2x's.

But other drives burned them at the correct 4x's.

This could be a safety feayre built into TDK's. Maybe they think somedrive are inferior so they force lower burn speeds.

It happened to me on the Lite On 451s with TDK dash/minus but not the plus. And of course Lite On likes plus better.

I bought the PrintOn discs also and eventhough it says 8x, they only burn at 4x on my NEC 3500 and my NEC 6500

Na it's just the firmware of this drive

You need to update your firmware on the NEC. Look at the TDK bestbuy thread


BTW, Burned just fine on my 106D and my BTC1016IM, albeit at 4X
They're still going back tomorrow though

Also if you look at the link, the photo glossy are only sold singles and the 8x media I bought says 4x least on their site

i got a stack of the +r sitting infront of me. my boss bought them not knowing that his standalone only uses dvd-r so he gave them to me. i guess he got them from costco. ill post the media code when i get home in a little while

umm yeah, stay away from the +r's. glad i didnt pay for them so how many prodiscs are worth 50 cmc's? i feel kinda bad just taking them

Guess I will stay away from the +R, but why are you guys complaining about it being 4x, you guys can't wait an extra 4 min. What's the big deal, for a TTG02 quality dvd and printon disks for that price, I don't think there is a better deal out there, I go to blankmedia.ca and buy 50 TY 8x for $49.00 + shipping, and this is the best price I can find. I think the TDK's are the ones for me, then again that's my opninon..
