I have been using TDK DVD+R media for many years (x16 speed, always burn at x4 speed), both movies and data backup. Never a problem. The one I used to get all the time were with grey top. I just looked a bunch of them up and see CPDR47G-CDMWP02-095 printed on inner part of it. Those always worked for me 100%. Now, with Office Depot going out of business, I picked up a few spindles, one with colored top TDK DVD+R (VR5F16-00610) and bluish top TDK DVD+R (VR5F16-00337).
Well, all the movies burned on these new DVD+R disc skip half way into the play. Nothing wrong with my DVD player or DVD burner. I had a few original DVDR and burned the same movie which plays OK. Problem goes back to the media, those two TDK types I bought from Office Depot (they are out of business, nothing could be returned back).
I have read here in the forum about different codes for TDK? Is there some you can recommend and where to buy them? Or should I forget all about TDK and move to another brand? I see people recommend Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden, where is the most reliable place to order these from US? How do I know these will not be a cheap outsourced kind as well? Please advice!!!!!!
Thanks!!!!

A few places you can for look for discs online:

For your TDK media, check our Media page. Take the media code from your discs and plug it in there and you will get some information about it. Quite a few brands of media are made by other manufacturers and just rebranded, so quality may vary greatly.
You can also go to this site for media info: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/ (Or NoMoreCoasters, Thanks, LS.)

Thanks guys! And I did just place an order with Amazon for Verbatim disk, but it sounds like a gamble to me - either I will get "good" one from Taiwan or "bad" one from India. At least I can return the "bad" one... I noticed Walmart carying these as well, but on-line order only for a much higher price plus shipping and taxes...

Well assuming you live in the U.S.
Officemax has Verbatim 100 packs on sale for $24.99 at the moment. -
I have been using Verbatim from India, and have not had any problems whatsoever! But, even if you feel that they are BAD, they are still a thousand times better than TDK.

Office Depot went out of business? That's the first time I've heard that.
Buying any branded media is a gamble these days but I've had good luck with Sony. -
Verbatim media is fine, regardless of where it is made (India, Taiwan or Singapore are all fine, and easily found in the USA).

I missed the office depot comment... thats a new one to me also.
There are 2 within 5 minutes of me & 2 more about a 15 minutes away -
All Office Depot in NJ are shutting down. The Wiz was 6-7 years ago. CompUSA was a few years ago. Circuit City completely shut down now. Office Depot locations shutting down too. Of couse, I'm speaking only from NJ side. Not sure if they are keeping on-line stores or if its not state-wide, but its a sad truth. The only real electronic store left in Jersey is Best Buy and they are sold out off most of the good stuff.
Gotta check OfficeMax. I think they are still open... -

twister6,
Go to HP's website and see if there's an update for your writer. Also try burning at 8-12x,sometimes the firmware gives a better write strategy at those speeds.Lastly run those DVD's on Nero CD-DVDSpeed to see how bad the errors are,if the score is over 90(low errors) then the problem might be the player.
