    Hello everyone.

I picked up some TDK+RW from Frys a few months ago. I thought I had selected decent media after reading the nomorecoasters review. TDK's were in the 1st class on their site. After burning a few I am seeing inconsistent performance.

I made a couple of discs. I noticed that 1 will play in my main DVD player. While the other wont. What's interesting is that it will play in other players that I have in the home.

I also attempted to erase the disc in DVDdecrypter and the software gives me an error. Since the performance of these discs are inconsistent I'm already thinking using Taiyo or Verbatims exclusively.

I'm mainly backing up TV shows and a few movies.

Should I keep using TDK's? Should they be my cheap give away discs for those not so important projects?

It's unlikely the TDK DVD+RWs are made by TDK; I think TDK only makes DVD-RW, so those are probably rebranded discs made by someone else. That said, Taiyo Yuden doesn't make any rewritable media, so yes Verbatim would be your best bet.

I checked a TDK disc a few months ago and it had more errors than any other disc I've seen. Like you said, use them for cheap give aways. Better yet, trash them.

    Stick with T.Y. and Verbatim.

    Thanks for the feedback.

The reason I have the RW's is because I copy from the television with a standalone recorder. Then I use that disc to reauthor on my desktop.

I was hoping to erase as I go along but that isn't working at the moment with these TDK's.

I have some other RW media that I am going to test out until I get my system down.

But this discussion makes me question whether I should get +r or -r for my "Final" discs.

TDK has slipped over to the dark side. Their media is pretty nasty stuff now.

Are those discs using TDK media IDs or somebody else? TDK is both a brand and a manufacturer.

For what it's worth, I've found +RW to be easier to work with than -RW, but I wouldn't insist that you stick with +RW over -RW like I definitely would in preferring +R DL over -R DL discs. I do advise only sticking with Verbatim as they have consistently been the best RW discs I've worked with, but I've even seen a few of them go bad after very little use. Sometimes rewriteable media doesn't last as long as its supposed to.

Taiyo Yuden doesn't make any RW or DL media, which I suppose says a lot about what they think of both formats. You'd be best to stick to Verbatim for those formats.
