i have a pioneer dv343, and was fooling around with some resolution sizes to see what would play. i have an mpeg clip at 352x288 that is 29fps, and when i burn to a disc the pioneer will not play at full screen. however, when i re-encode the same mpeg to pal, which is the same 352x288 resolution, but the framerate is now 25fps and i burn it to a disc the pioneer plays it back at full screen. i was wondering why this occurs. it seems to me that the fps shouldnt really affect the playback of resolution. anyone have any ideas? thanks

It is using the framerate to determine the video system. If it is 29.97 and 352x288, it probably assumes it is a nonstandard NTSC video (since it should be 352x240 to be proper NTSC). When you convert it to 25 fps, it recognizes it as a PAL video.

It occurs because movies of 25FPS should use 352x288. you have a hybrid movie if you have 352x288 @ 29.97, hybrids arent really good for standalone DVD players.
when you changed the FPS to 25, you changed the movie from hybrid to PAL standard, which is why it plays properly.
