i have several 720x480 avi files that were shot with true widescreen. (not the black bars)I want to know how to letterbox them since i do not have final cut pro of affter effects. i have liquid edition. I have tried virtual dub selecting letterbox but it wants a dimension. what are these? On my computer a 1024 by 480 aspect ratio show letterbox, but upon screening it does not. Is there a program out thee that will automatically letterbox you footage? If so where? and is it expenseive? Also are their other pc based programs such a cinelook for final cut that is available for pc users. also how can you fake letterboxing? Thank you for your time.
Sincerly,

Depends on what you are calling "widescreen". If your AVIs are captured with an AR of 16:9, then just encode your 720x480 videos normally, then set the 16:9 flag in the MPG header.
If, as you say, the video was capped at 1024x480, then you are going to have to add the "black bars" when you encode. Or, you could crop 85 pixels off each side, then encode normally and then add the flag. Burning a 1024x480 to DVD with the 16:9 flag would result in horizontally "squished" video.ICBM target coordinates:

What is the mpg header? is it located in liquid,?virtual dub ?or ulead movie factory? excuse my ignorance. Thanks.
