I can go through all the steps to re-author the disk, but when I click back-up my computer restarts itself and a dialogue box pops up saying that there was a major error or attempts to restart but goes to DOS until I shut off my DVD burner. Has anyone else had this problem; I searched to but could not find a similar situation. My burner is a Pacific Digital. My computer is a Dell 1.6G with 640Mb Ram and still have 38 GB of space on the C Drive.

  4. Maybe delete the registry settings for Shrink, I had a problem with Shrink freezing up and removing the registry settings resolved it.

run: 'regedit' - you can just type 'regedit' in at 'Start'-'Run...' from your Windows taskbar. Go here in the registry:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DVD Shrink\DVD Shrink 3.2

Delete it and any subfolders, then restart DVD Shrink and try again.

I just wiped my computer a couple weeks ago, and upgraded to XP Professional. I do not really have anything on it except for Ad-Aware, AOL 9.0, DVD Decryptor (which also doesn't work), and Adobe. I've downloaded SP2. I'm going to try ^^^ and see if that works. Thanks guys for your help and I'll keep you posted.

I did this and I got the same result as before. I understand that Shrink and Decryptor are one of the best, but is there any other that is rated as good.

  8. I am having the same problem, but it is happening during encoding. I rip the files with Decrypter then try to shrink it. I have plenty of drive space, I un-installed re-installed. It is funny but when I encoded a movie that did not need any compression it worked fine. Anything under 100% and my Pc shuts off.

Yes, I had this done after wiping my computer; I also had my USB updates downloaded, which was all done by the IT guy at my job. I am still downloading updates from Microsoft, but, as stated previously, now have SP2. I have McAffee and use Ad-Aware to make sure I do not have viruses or spyware. Since the wipe I have not gotten any viruses even detected, and I ran my Ad-Aware last night and it did not find any spyware. This whole thing has baffled me. My computer is running better now than the day I first got it, except I cannot even back up a DVD to burn.

  11. Does your swap file have enough space? What about your temp directory? Double check your IDE cables and if possible, put your DVD drive on another channel. Make sure you don't have 2 masters on the same channel. Try disabling McAffee when using Dvd Shrink to see if that is the problem.

I disabled McAffee and got the same result. I only have one channel for the DVD drive. However, I do not understand what you mean by my swap file having enough space or the temp directory. Also, are the IDE cables the ones that plug into the USB? Please bear with me.
